My name is John Conners. I spent the first 24 years or so of my life living in Fife, Scotland where I developed a slightly unconvincing Scottish accent, an appreciation of cold winters, a love of mountains and the outdoors and a ‘live life in the moment’ attitude. Amongst other things.
I've spent the next 24 years or so of my life living in Yorkshire where I have developed an appreciation of rain, kept my same unconvincing Scottish accent, learned to love the rolling hills of the countryside and tolerate mild, wet winters. Amongst other things.
I spend most of my free time keeping fit, hiking, travelling and playing football. My other passions in life are photography and music – I’m always taking photos and barely a moment goes by that a song isn’t bouncing around inside my head.
I’m a software developer by trade and that can also spill into my free time – see the My Software section of this site. Back in 2004 I wrote a piece of software that changes your PC’s background picture at specified intervals and released it for free. I’m no good with names so I called it John’s Background Switcher. Over time I’ve expanded the functionality from the many suggestions I’ve had from people using it and now you can choose photos from a variety of sites like Flickr, Google Photos, smugmug, Dropbox, Unsplash, OneDrive, Vladstudio and RSS feeds as well as your local machine. It’s proved rather popular much to my surprise with many hundreds of thousands of users and I've even built a Mac version you can get from the App Store!
I started this blog in 2002 – back then nobody had heard of the word “blog” or understood why they’d want to do it. How times have changed. I don’t take myself too seriously and just write about my life with no particular theme or focus. Just my "adventures". Most of my posts accept comments so you can tell me what you think or that I was talking rubbish and if that’s not enough then feel free to contact me and tell me more. If you want to get a feel for the sort of things I write about and a bit more about me, I reckon these posts just about cover the lot:
This site is my little corner of the internet and contains my ramblings, photos I’ve taken and stories from my past, present and imagination. Enjoy!
